Description
The War Memorial on Perth Road in Stanley was built in 1924 to commemorate those who served in the First World War. It features a three-stage plinth topped with a statue of a soldier. A roll of honour for the Second World War was later added. The memorial is constructed of ashlar stone and includes three steps leading up to a rectangular first stage plinth, which transitions to an uncut stone second stage that displays bronze plaques. The battered third stage also features bronze plaques, including one on the east side inscribed with the words 'TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND IN MEMORY OF OUR BELOVED DEAD', and is topped by a kilted soldier leaning against a rock.
Surrounding the memorial are low ashlar boundary walls with inset railings, square-plan gatepiers, and two-leaf ironwork gates.
