Description
The war memorial on Manse Road in Dirleton dates from around 1920. It features a simple design with a shaft on a pedestal. The structure is made of ashlar and has an octagonal base consisting of three steps that support a square pedestal. The pedestal has chamfered angles and recessed inscription panels on each of its four sides. Above the pedestal, there is a square, tapering shaft with chamfered edges. At the mid-point of the shaft, there is a ring of four shields displaying a saltire, a crowned thistle, a lion, and a wreathed cross. The memorial is topped with a cavetto capital that has carved Tudor roses and a decorative Greek cross finial.
