Description

The War Memorial on Bridge Street in Kelso was designed by Sir Robert Lorimer in 1921 and is of the Mercat Cross type. It features a square shaft topped with a cross, standing on a pedestal that has a niche containing a statue of St George, sculpted by C d'O Pilkington Jackson. The memorial is set on a stepped base with an octagonal balustraded parapet surrounding it, and each face of the pedestal includes a tablet inscribed with the names of the fallen. There is a dwarf wall along Bridge Street with a moulded coping and a wrought-iron rail positioned between the piers.
