Description
Laundry Cottage in Cardoness, dated 1863, is a picturesque former laundry built in a "picturesque gothic" style. It is a single-storey building with an attic and has an L-shaped plan with the entrance located to the north. The walls are made of rubble, featuring bull-faced granite margins around some of the ground floor windows and the door.
At the northeast corner, there is a gabled porch situated in the re-entrant angle. To the south, there are two three-light casement windows with diamond-pane glazing, which may have been enlarged in the early 20th century. All ground floor windows have similar glazing, and there are some rooflights present. Additionally, there is a single-storey rubble outhouse attached to the west gable.
The cottage has steeply pitched slate roofs and timber-bracketed eaves, with coped end stacks and octagonal chimney cans.
