Description
This is an early 19th century cottage built in the picturesque Gothic style. It is constructed of random rubble walls painted white, with freestone dressings, and has a slate roof behind decorative wavy bargeboards. The chimney stack is a modern replacement made of brown brick and has two diagonal shafts. The front, which faces the garden, is designed with a picturesque arrangement; the main gabled section is flanked by a short wing on the right and a larger, formerly similar wing on the left, set back from the main building line. The lower floor features two-light mullioned windows with round-headed lights, small-pane glazing, stepped spandrels, and hood moulds above. Above these, there is a single attic window of a similar design, but with an ogee hood mould. The doorway on the right side is set under a pointed arch and has a replacement door, situated under a smooth, rendered parapet with a small gable concealing the monopitch roof of a porch. A former pointed doorway on the left side has been converted into a floor-length window with two round-headed lights and small-pane glazing. This doorway was previously under a similar rendered parapet with a gable, but is now incorporated into the parapet of a flat-roofed extension, which also has a two-light window in a style matching the main cottage windows. At the rear of the cottage, there is a small-pane two-light casement window in the attic and another casement window below, both with wooden lintels. The building has not been inspected internally.
