Description

The property comprises a farmhouse and attached barn, dating from the early 19th century. The farmhouse is constructed of whitewashed rubble stone with a slate roof and end stacks, with brickwork to the left and stone to the right. It is two storeys and has an attic, with a double-fronted elevation offset to the right, displaying an irregular bay spacing. A four-panel door, with two glazed panels, is located to the right of centre, sheltered by a shallow-gabled surround in stucco. The upper windows are spaced further in than the lower ones and are early 19th-century cross-windows with small panes, featuring a six-pane top light over a nine-pane lower light. Ground floor windows have hoodmoulds. A central gabled dormer window is present. The left end wall contains two loft cross-windows, and a single-storey whitewashed brick outbuilding adjoins the left side, finished with concrete tiles. The rear of the farmhouse exhibits whitewashed rubble stone walls. A first-floor window on the left side has 12-over-12 panes, while a first-floor window on the right side is a 17th-century oak mullioned three-light window with three eight-pane lights. Ground floor additions include a lean-to to the left with a rear door and two 17th-century ovolo-moulded two-light windows with eight-pane casements, centrally and to the right. This lean-to extends into an angle formed at the rear of a lower addition to the barn, which crosses the end wall of the house. The barn section has a whitewashed red brick gable-end with cambered-headed windows on both floors and a whitewashed rubble stone front with a tall door under a timber lintel, set to the right. The roof of the barn section has asbestos sheeting, although stone tiles were present in 1981.

The main barn, located to the left, is taller, consisting of two storeys and featuring a slate roof that is hipped to the left. A tall opening with a timber lintel and corrugated-iron pent hood supported by brackets is centrally located. To the left of this is a small door, also with a timber lintel, and a small vent loop at upper level. To the right, a former 17th-century oak ovolo-moulded three-light window frame, potentially reused, is now fitted with 20th-century fixed glazing. Directly below is a blocked broad door with a timber lintel, followed by a narrower door, also with a timber lintel, above which is a loft door with a brick surround and timber lintel. The left end wall of the barn has vent loops at ground floor level, with two more above. The rear wall, perpendicular to the front wall of the farmhouse, incorporates a ground floor window with a cambered head, now blocked with red brick.

The farmhouse's ground floor has three massive plain beams. A front left room contains a small wall cupboard with two panelled doors, and the fireplace has been blocked. A straight flight of stairs is situated on the back wall. The first floor replicates this with three massive plain beams. Winding stairs lead from the first floor to the loft, which contains three large collar trusses with lapped collars and double purlins. The barn's right-hand section was originally a lofted double cart-shed, with one entry now blocked, although the pier between the bays remains visible. A lower section on the right functioned as a stable, featuring a cobble floor, oak beams, and joists, across a two-bay roof.
