Description

Waun-y-pwll is a house that features roughcast walls and a concrete tiled roof with close eaves, using shaped tiles installed in 1981. The house has 20th-century chimneys at both ends, with the left side constructed of stone and the right side of brick. It was extended by one bay to the right in the mid to late 20th century, maintaining the same roof height. The original structure is two stories high with a two-window range, which now includes 20th-century uPVC windows; the upper windows have some surviving diamond mullions from 1981. The left bay has broader windows, while the right bay features a window above a 20th-century uPVC door. The right addition is a single-storey range that projects forward at a right angle and includes a window, a door, and another window. The left end wall has a small uPVC window on the ground floor. The rear of the house has two uPVC windows on each floor, one of which retains two diamond mullions from 1981. A stone string course beneath the first-floor sills is noted in a photograph by Fox & Raglan.

The ground floor has a two-room plan separated by a post-and-panel screen, featuring chamfered and stopped posts and Tudor-arched doorways at each end. The main room on the left measures 13 feet (3.97 meters) and includes a fireplace with a timber lintel and stone sides on the left end, a Tudor-arched door leading to a winding staircase on the left (which is not accessible, but an oak block and stone spiral stair was recorded in 1981), and a closet recess on the right. There are three chamfered beams with stepped hollow-moulded stops, along with chamfered joists that have diagonal stops visible in two bays. The right parlour measures 8 feet 6 inches (2.59 meters) in length and contains two similar beams. The first floor features five beams and similar chamfered joists with diagonal stops throughout, as well as another post-and-panel partition with chamfered posts and diagonal stops, including a Tudor-arched doorway. There is also a Tudor-arched doorway leading to the attic stairs at the left end. The loft is inaccessible, but the roof trusses are said to have tenoned collars.
