Description

Cottage, likely dating to the 17th century or earlier, and remodelled in the early to mid-19th century in a Picturesque Tudor Gothic style. The cottage is constructed of limewashed rubble and coursed rubble, with a thatched roof over the main body and slate over a north extension. The stacks are of rubble and rendered, some square and some circular, with two incorporating pebbles. The east elevation is traditional, single-storey with eyebrow dormers to the attic. It has four 2- and 3-light casement windows featuring ovolo moulded mullions or gothick lights, and one large pane sash window. The north extension is of two bays and single-storey with 19th and 20th century casement windows. A pannelled and studded door is off-centre to the left, sheltered by a projecting thatched hood. The west elevation is irregular and asymmetrical, single-storey with attics in gables and dormers, with four bays. An advanced, gabled two-storey wing is to the right, featuring an elaborate fretwork bargeboard and 3-light casement windows with cusped tracery and a square hoodmould. A projecting gabled porch is in the re-entrant angle, thatched with an enriched fretwork bargeboard, rustic piers, and a studded door with a 4-centred head. To the left of the porch, a single, stone pointed light is on the ground floor, and a 2-light casement with cusped gothick stone tracery is on the first floor. Adjacent to the upper window, a gabled dormer projects, with an elaborate bargeboard and a lined out rendered section below. Further left is a brick projecting porch with a cusped bargeboard, followed by a two-bay section with plain 2- and 3-light casement windows.
