Description
This is a later 19th-century open-sided hay barn located at Cally Mains Farm. It is unusually large, with a 10-bay design along its flanks and a single bay at each end. The roof is piended and slate-covered, featuring a full-length ridge ventilator. The structure is supported by piers built from whinstone rubble, reinforced with granite quoins, and laminated timber lintels. The roof is carried on these lintels. The barn is notable for its impressive scale and the quality of the materials used in its construction. It is part of a group listing that also includes the Cally Mains Farmhouse and Steading. The barn first appeared on Ordnance Survey maps in 1893.
