Description
The Motor House at Kinmount House, likely designed by Barbour and Bowie, dates from 1907 and is an Edwardian free-style garage and workshop. It is a single-storey structure built with stugged red coursers featuring polished dressings, architraves, and channelled angle pilaster strips.
The east elevation has two 2-bay pedimented gables connected by an open shelter, with sliding garage doors located behind it. There are oculi in the tympana, which feature oversized keyblocks. To the right, there is an unroofed small court enclosed by screen walls and gatepiers, along with a piended outer range. The building has louvred windows with small-paned upper lights and blocked eaves. The roofs are made of iron and steel trusses, equipped with louvred and gabled axial ventilators, all covered with slate. A single large corniced stack and rooflights are also present.
Inside, the Motor House contains car pits and some electrical or belt-driven workshop machinery, which may be original to the building.
