Description

Style of Frank C Carruthers. Circa 1900. Lodge in English vernacular tradition with timber framing. Asymmetrical. Single storey and attic and roughly L-plan with Tudor-arched pend straddling driveway, octagonal turret to rear (E) in re-entrant angle; windows mostly mullioned/ mullioned and transomed. Snecked, mainly bull-faced red ashlar (partly

stugged) with polished dressings, gables over wall-heads white- plastered with black-painted timber framing. Some small buttresses. N elevation: tall gable to left corbelled over archway, former presents identical elevation to S, latter with hood-mould continued over flanking doorways (one to porch); oriel gabled dormer at right. Corniced tall stacks; slate roofs with diminutive scrolled finials over gables,

facetted and finialed turret. Pend has elaborate wrought-iron gates, arched screens on N flank. Low N wings. Curved bull-faced ashlar quadrant walls with bell-cast cope, no piers.
