Description
South Lodge and Gates at Castlemilk is a Tudor-style lodge built around 1865, likely designed by David Bryce. The building features barge-boards and is constructed from stugged ashlar with polished dressings and piers.
The lodge is a single-storey structure with an asymmetrical design, showcasing advanced gables, mullioned windows, and cusped barge-boards. On the north elevation, there is an open porch on the right with shouldered openings, while to the left, a canted ground floor window is corbelled and curves to square, with the main roof breaking forward over it. The roof is covered with graded slates and includes an axial stack with paired square flues linked by a cornice. There is also a low rear wing on the south side.
The gate piers consist of four panelled and corniced square piers, each topped with a ball finial. The gates are decorative cast-iron, featuring a curved long low cope and barley-sugar standards with elaborate spikes on the railings.
