Post Office And Lairdie's Brae Houses, 8-9 The Square, Glamis

The Post Office and Lairdie's Brae Houses, located at 8-9 The Square in Glamis, date back to the 18th century. This two-storey, five-bay building is part of a regular terrace to the northeast and features harled walls with painted margins.

On the northwest elevation facing The Square, there is a shop window located in the bay to the left of center, flanked by part-glazed timber doors and two additional windows to the right. The first floor has a regular arrangement of windows, while the outer right bay is slightly recessed and has a rounded outer angle that is corbelled to a square at the first floor.

The southeast elevation includes a single-storey extension at ground level with a window on the outer left and three windows on the first floor. There is also a further single-storey wing that projects to the outer right and connects to adjoining outbuildings.

The building features a four-pane glazing pattern in timber sash and case windows, with a fixed window in the shop. The roof is covered with grey slate and Angus stone slate, and it has coped ashlar and brick stacks with thackstanes and cans.

Additionally, there are ancillary structures consisting of single-storey rubble outbuildings that have boarded timber doors and are roofed with Angus slate.
