Description

Pewton Cottage, located at 8 Main Street in Glamis, is an 18th-century pair of two-storey, three-bay houses. The exterior features coursed rubble and dry dash with stugged ashlar margins and large squared rubble quoins.

The northwest elevation facing Main Street is symmetrical, with both houses having a part-glazed timber door at the center, flanked by windows in the outer bays, and additional windows close to the eaves on the first floor.

On the northeast elevation, which faces Foote's Close, there is a gabled design with a window on the outer right at each floor. To the outer left, there is a single-storey wing that includes a door on the right and two windows on the left, with a blank wall of an adjoining outbuilding beyond.

The southwest elevation, facing Strappert's Close, has a window in the left bay at each floor and a small window in the gablehead to the right. There is also a slightly recessed bay on the outer right with a small window beneath a catslide roof.

The southeast elevation is dry-dashed and features a variety of openings, with smaller windows close to the eaves on the first floor. There is a single-storey lean-to bay to the left of center and another single-storey bay projecting to the right.

The principal elevations have timber sash and case windows with a 12-pane glazing pattern. The roofs are covered with grey slate and Angus stone slate, featuring stepped ashlar skews and brick stacks with cans and thackstanes.

Additionally, there are ancillary structures, including a single-storey outbuilding adjoining the northeast elevation and another single-storey, rectangular-plan outbuilding to the southwest, both constructed of rubble and topped with Angus stone slates.
