Description

9, 11, and 13 Main Street in Glamis are 18th-century houses, with No. 11 dated 1765, and were renovated in the late 20th century. This two-storey row of houses features six bays above ground, constructed from coursed rubble with stone margins and relieving arches.

On the southeast elevation facing Main Street, there are three bays to the right of the center, which include a door flanked by windows on the ground floor and regular window placement above. To the left of the center, there are two doors flanking a small central window, with additional windows on the outer left and right at ground level, and three regularly spaced windows on the first floor. All doors are made of boarded timber.

The southwest elevation has asymmetrical fenestration in a M-gable design, featuring two windows on the ground floor (with a relieving arch over a blinded window in the center) and three windows on the first floor (the center window also has a relieving arch), along with two tiny windows in the right gablehead.

The northwest (rear) elevation shows recessed bays to the left with three windows on each floor and a door on the outer left. The advanced bays to the right include a door and two windows to the left of center, with another door and window to the right at ground level, and four regularly spaced windows on the first floor, topped by a shouldered wallhead stack in the center.

The houses feature a 12-pane glazing pattern in timber sash and case windows throughout, with grey slate roofs. The chimneys are made of coped ashlar, with the center southeast chimney raised in brick and the left southwest chimney also in brick, both featuring thackstanes at the ridge stacks.
