Old Jail, Hanton's Yard, Main Street, Glamis

The Old Jail, located in Hanton's Yard on Main Street in Glamis, is likely from the early 19th century. It is a single-storey, two-bay building with a rectangular plan, constructed of random rubble and featuring large squared quoins and voussoirs. The structure has a vaulted design and a round-headed door, topped with a corrugated-iron roof.

On the southeast elevation, the entrance door is positioned to the left of centre, with a window that was formerly barred to the right. The building extends to semi-derelict bays on the outer right. There is an ashlar stack that projects from the centre of the roof pitch.

The southwest elevation is blank at ground level and has been raised in breeze block to the gablehead, which includes a small opening.

Inside, the building features a stone vault with small niches in the wall thickness near the floor on the southwest and northeast sides.
