Strathmore Arms Hotel, 1 The Square, Glamis

The Strathmore Arms Hotel, located at 1 The Square in Glamis, is an 18th-century building that likely incorporates elements from the 17th century and has undergone alterations in the 19th century, with renovations completed in 1968. This two-storey and attic hotel features a rectangular plan and consists of three bays. It is now connected to a former building known as the Post Office House, which is listed separately. The exterior is harled over ashlar with raised margins.

On the southeast elevation, which is the principal facade, the design is symmetrical. It features a central glazed door flanked by windows, with taller windows on the first floor. There is a cavetto-coped rubble door that connects to the Post Office House, located to the outer right, and it has an architraved surround.

The southwest elevation includes a three-light bow window to the left of the center at ground level, a window in the center bay on the first floor, and smaller windows in the outer bays of the attic. A prominent gablehead stack is situated above this elevation. Additionally, there is a projecting flat-roofed extension with asymmetrical fenestration.

The windows are timber sash and case with a 12-pane glazing pattern. The roof is covered with grey slates, and there are broad, tall, coped harled stacks topped with thackstanes and cans, along with stepped ashlar skews.
