Description

Delaware House, now a veterinary surgery, is a 17th-century building that has been modified over time. It is constructed of roughly squared and coursed Cary stone on a lias stone plinth, with painted stone dressings. The roof is made of double Roman clay tiles and features plain gables, along with brick chimney stacks. The house has two storeys and three bays. The second and third bays have ovolo-moulded mullioned windows, with three lights above and four lights below; the lower windows have labels and are unleaded, although some have iron-framed opening lights. The first bay on the upper level has a small horizontal-bar casement, while the lower first bay features a cambered arched doorway that is accessed by five steps with wrought iron handrails, set under a label and with incised spandrels. The interior has not been seen. At the south-east corner, there is a gateway with tall square ashlar piers, semi-circular arched panelled faces, and moulded bell-hipped tops.
