Description
Mother Shipton's Stone is a landscape feature located in the park of Orchard Wyndham. It dates from the late 18th century to the early 19th century and is designed in the form of a Roman tombstone. The stone is made of monolithic red sandstone and stands about 2 meters high. It has a cambered head and features an incised face that is thought to represent a female figure, along with an indistinct Latin inscription below and an incised laurel wreath. This stone is a reconstruction of a Roman tombstone that was originally found in Cumberland by the Wyndhams of Orchard Wyndham.
