Description

Yard Mill House is a miller's house, corn mill, and waterwheel that has been converted into a private residence. It dates from the 17th to 18th century and is located on the site of an earlier mill that ceased operation in 1910. The building features roughcast and random rubble construction, with a pantiled roof on the main block and slate roofs on the wings, along with brick stacks. The layout is in a "U" shape, with the mill and the miller's house under one roof, and the waterwheel positioned to the left, with lower gabled wings.

The main block is three storeys high, with two bays and mixed fenestration. An overshot waterwheel, inscribed "J Chidgey and Sons 1910," is located on the right return. The right wing, which was originally a loft over stables, is two storeys tall and features a gabled loft door, two rectangular two-light casements, and two segmental-headed double door openings with key stones, along with an inserted door and window between. A brick stack rises from the eaves and includes pigeon holes at the first floor. The left wing has two gable-end two-light casements and now serves as the entrance. Although it has been altered in the 20th century, Yard Mill House is part of an interesting group of houses at the yard.
