Description
Calverley Cottage is a pair of cottages dated 1824, constructed from red sandstone coursed rubble with hipped slate roofs and overhanging eaves. The building features soffit boards and brick stacks. It stands two storeys high and is arranged in a 1:3:3:1 bay configuration. The central pair of full-height canted bays includes 2-light mullioned windows in the center and single lights on the returns, while the outer bays have 2-light casements. All windows have Tudor arched heads and marginal glazing bars. The entrances are located in the outer bays, featuring 4-centred arch head doorways with plank doors. A square plaque is inserted on the first floor between the two canted bays, inscribed with "IT (Sir John Treveleyan) 1824." The village of Nettlecombe was relocated to Woodford due to the landscaping of Nettlecombe Court Park, now known as Leonard Wills Field Centre, during the lifetime of Sir John Trevelyan, who died in 1826.
