Description

This is a road sign located about 90 metres south-east of Court Farmhouse. It was made between 1907 and 1911 and is constructed from cast iron. The sign features a 'T'-shaped post with a top red triangle that displays the letters "SAC," which stands for Somerset Automobile Club, on the bottom member. The back of the sign has the casting signature of W and F Wills, Engineers, Bridgwater. The main plate on the front reads "Winsham/Please drive/slowly," while the reverse side says "Thank you." This sign is one of 36 privately financed signs that were accepted by Somerset County Council in 1907. In 1911, two signs were ordered by Chard Rural District Council for this village, and both of those still exist, with very few others remaining.
