Description
Lynchfield Hospital is a house that was built around 1800 and later enlarged in the mid-20th century. The building features roughcast over rubble with ashlar plinths and a hipped slate roof behind a parapet, along with a rendered stack on the right. It is two stories tall and has three bays. The first floor has 16-pane sash windows, while the ground floor has 24-pane sash windows, with louvred shutters on the right and one to the left. A central wooden Doric porch with a broken pediment is supported by two groups of three columns. Below the porch is a patterned pebble pavement and a six-panel door with semi-circular tracery side lights that continue as circles in the fanlight. The left return of the building has seven bays, originally three, and features a large group of rendered stacks at the junction. There is a mid-20th century addition on the right side of the facade, which has resulted in the loss of one louvred shutter, but this addition is not included in the listing. The building is reputed to have been constructed by a successful local attorney.
