Description
Slimbridge features a pair of cottages that have been combined into one dwelling, dating from the mid-19th century. The cottages are constructed from irregularly coursed, squared red sandstone and topped with double Roman tile gabled roofs that have decorative bargeboards and brick stacks. The building is L-shaped and stands one and a half storeys high, with a symmetrical arrangement of one bay on each side. It has sash windows with marginal glazing bars, and the first-floor window on the right extends through the eaves, topped with a gable featuring decorative bargeboards. The entrance is located in the left-hand gabled wing, which includes a gabled porch adorned with decorative ridge tiles, bargeboards, and a finial, along with a four-panel door and a tripartite rectangular glazed opening above. There is also evidence of a blocked opening on the ground floor to the left. The building is depicted on historic maps as Station Cottages and is a charming example of its type, complete with original features. The railway line from Taunton to Watchet opened in 1862.
