Description
Farmhouse. Dating from the 16th century, it was enlarged in the 17th and 18th centuries. The farmhouse is constructed of red sandstone rubble, rendered on the front facade, with colourwashed walls and a thatched roof, the right side having coped verges. Brick stacks are present. The original layout comprised a 3-cell plan with a cross passage facing roughly east, a single-cell addition to the south, and a later north wing which served as a farm building. The building is one and a half storeys high, with four bays featuring casement windows of varying sizes. The main entrance is situated between the first and second bays on the right side and is sheltered by a gabled wooden trellis porch with a plank door. A single ovolo-moulded window is found on the right return, likely to illuminate the staircase. There's a corrugated iron-roofed outshut at the rear. The north wing has a half-hipped roof and access to the first floor via an external staircase featuring a large, elliptical-headed opening below. Inside, original jointed cruck trusses remain, along with chamfered beams with enriched stops. A staircase turret occupies the south-west corner, positioned to the right of the open fireplace which contains a bread oven. Stairs are also present on the west front. Lath and plaster partitions are found upstairs.
