Description

Grovecote is a villa built around 1830, located on the north side of Preston Road in Yeovil. The house is constructed from ashlar stone and features a shallow hipped roof with deep eaves and end chimneystacks. It has a rectangular plan with flanking side walls and a symmetrical, classically-styled front that consists of three bays.

The central part of the façade includes a projecting porch supported by slender Tuscan columns, leading to a six-panelled door with the top two panels glazed. On either side of the entrance are sixteen-pane sash windows set in staple openings, with three additional sash windows located on the first floor. The side walls are rendered and have swept, curved copings with niches.

In front of the house, there is a low boundary wall and stone gate piers. Grovecote is recognized for its well-preserved mid-19th century architecture and balanced design, showcasing quality craftsmanship with local materials.
