Description
The Cemetery Lodge, built in 1863, is a Grade II listed building located on the north side of Preston Road in Yeovil. It features local stone constructed in boasted coursed rubble for the basement, with ashlar for the upper levels, and has Ham stone dressings. The lodge has a cruciform plan and stands three storeys tall, with a mid-20th century infill at the rear.
The south projecting arm includes narrow semi-circular headed slit windows at the basement level, and on the ground floor, there are two-light windows with slightly chamfered surrounds and duochrome relieving arches above, aligning with the basement windows. Above these, in the gable, are two semi-circular headed windows with a circular light above, all set in a pointed duochrome relieving arch.
The right arm of the cross plan features a pointed arched doorway at the upper ground level in the east wall, accessed by a flight of steps, with a gabled two-light window above it. This window design is also repeated in the western arm facing the south road. All windows are adorned with patterned leaded lights. The roof is covered with slates in two colors, and the entrance arm has an additional pyramidal slated roof with alternating courses of fish-scale slates. The building also has stone chimney stacks. The interior has not been inspected.
