Description

The westernmost twin cemetery chapel for Non-Conformists, built in 1863, is constructed from local stone ashlar with Ham stone dressings and features Welsh slated roofs. This chapel is one of a pair of handed chapels designed in a Greek cross plan, with an added colonnade porch to the east. The south transept is shaped like an angled chevet and exhibits Romanesque style with some polychromy. The corner buttresses of the porch support a semi-circular headed entrance archway, which is flanked by small side shafts. The returns feature a semi-circular arched opening divided by a column and heavily cusped tracery.

On the south elevation, there is a cusped lancet window in the 'nave' bay, followed by plate tracery in semi-circular arches leading to the chevet, and another cusped lancet in the 'chancel' bay. The corner buttresses have a quasi-dentilled eaves course. The west end has a triple window, with the centre light divided centrally and decorated capitals and imposts. The north elevation mirrors the south, but the chevet is replaced by a flat table with a pair of doors. A small circular window is located in the east wall above the porch. At the crossing, there is a short gabled turret with a square fine-line termination. The interior has not been inspected. While this chapel is architecturally significant on its own, its value is further enhanced by its twin opposite.
