Description
No 20 Swallowcliffe is a town house, now serving as County Court Offices, built around 1830. The building is rendered to imitate ashlar and is colourwashed, topped with a hipped Welsh slate roof that features a wide soffit. The east facade is two storeys high and consists of three bays. It has a prominent central stone Roman Doric porch with unfluted columns and pilasters, along with a full entablature. Above the six-panel door, there is a plain semi-circular fanlight. On either side of the porch are twelve-pane sash windows with margin lights and radial deadlights, set within semi-circular arched niches. The first floor has three twelve-pane sash windows in plain openings. The interior, which has not been fully inspected, retains the original staircase and features notable plasterwork, including cornices and a plaster vaulted ceiling in the entrance hall, as well as several Regency style doors and architraves on the ground floor. The upper floor has been modified to meet fire regulations. The listing does not include the outbuildings or No 19B on the same site.
