Description
54 Princes Street is a late 18th-century town house that has been converted into offices. It is constructed from local stone that has been cut and squared, with Ham stone dressings, and features a shallow pitched Welsh slate roof behind a parapet. The two-storey facade has five bays, with the left-hand bay angled in relation to the others. There is a six-panel door, with the top four panels glazed, set within a simple surround that has a flat stone hood. The facade includes 12-pane sash windows set in architraves, although the glazing bars are missing from the top casement of the third bay, and the windows in the fifth bay have been blocked up within the architrave. The first floor has matching windows with square panes, with the window in the fifth bay also blocked. A simple cornice runs along the top of the facade, leading to the parapet. The building has a return to North Lane, which features ashlar that may have been added later to match the main facade, with four windows and a blocked doorway. The rear elevation and interior have not been inspected. This house is now linked to the Mansion House and may have functioned as a wing of that house for many years.
