Description
This is a 19th-century milepost located approximately 50 metres east of the entrance to Gelsthorpe Farm in Whixley, North Yorkshire. It is made of cast iron and gritstone, featuring a triangular section with a semicircular head, standing about 1 metre high. The inscriptions on the milepost indicate directions: the head reads "Knaresborough and Green Hammerton Road Whixley," the left face states "Knaresborough 6 miles," and the right face indicates "Green Hammerton 2 miles." The cast-iron plate is secured to a gritstone block with two bolts through the head.
