Description
Rose Cottages, also known as derelict cottages, are three vacant cottages dating from the mid-18th century, which were converted in the early 19th century. They are constructed from coursed rubble stone with brick dressings, partly rendered and completely painted, and feature pantile roofs and four brick chimney stacks. The cottages are two stories tall.
The south front has an off-centre four-panel door, flanked by a single 16-pane glazing bar sash on each side, with two 12-pane glazing bar sashes above. The High Street facade includes four windows: three to the left and a single set-back window to the right. There are two doorways, the left one featuring an overlight and flanked by two-light Yorkshire sliding sashes. To the right, there is another doorway with a plank door, followed by a two-light sliding sash. Above this, there are four Yorkshire sliding sashes.
The north gable wall is blank, while the rear has two plank doors to the left with two irregular windows between them, and another two windows above. This group of cottages is well preserved and represents traditional vernacular architecture.
