Description

Stone Gate Farmhouse is an early 19th-century house located on the south side of Stone Gate in Whixley. It is constructed of light red brick in English bond and has a roof covered with 20th-century pantiles. The building has two storeys with attics and features three bays. There are two steps leading up to a central six-panel door, which is topped by a fanlight with glazing bars. The door is framed by a classical doorcase with Ionic pilasters and a modillioned cornice. Above the door, there is a sash window with glazing bars. The other windows are 16-pane sashes, all set in flush wood architraves, with stone sills and slightly cambered gauged brick arches. The house has stone kneelers and ashlar coping, along with corniced end stacks. The left side of the building has a round-headed sash window in the attic storey.

Attached to the right is an outbuilding, which is not of special interest. The property also includes a forecourt wall, railings, and a gate to the north. The brick wall is approximately 50 centimetres high and ramps up at the ends to meet higher side walls, turning in at the gateway. It features ashlar coping, while the cast-iron railing bars have leafy finials. The gate matches this design, and the gate piers are topped with ball finials.
