WHIXLEY STONE GATE (south side) Stone Gate Farmhouse, with forecourt wall and railings and gate to north.
GV II
House. Early C19. Light red brick, English bond, C20 pantiles. 2 storeys with attics, 3 bays. 2 steps to central 6-panel door under fanlight with glazing bars. Classical doorcase has Ionic pilasters and modillioned cornice. Sash with glazing bars over door. Other windows 16-pane sashes, all in flush wood architraves, with stone sills and slightly cambered gauged brick arches. Stone kneelers and ashlar coping. Corniced end stacks. Left return has round-headed sash window to attic storey. Outbuilding attached to right, not of special interest. Forecourt wall, railings and gate. Brick wall approximately 50 centimetres high, ramped up at ends to meet higher side walls, and turned in at gateway. Ashlar coping. Cast-iron railing bars have leafy finials. Gate of similar design; gate piers have ball finials.
