Description
The gateway, wall, railings, and piers located to the west of the Orangery at Byram Park were built in the mid-19th century and are designed in the Jacobethan style. Constructed from sandstone, ashlar, and cast iron, the central gateway is flanked by walls and railings. The square piers are adorned with carved baskets of fruit and vegetables, and feature ram's heads at the corners that hold swags supporting a cornice. Each pier is topped with a pyramidal cap and a pineapple finial. The ornate double gates are decorated with scrollwork and are complemented by railings on a low wall on either side. These railings consist of bars, dogbars, and twisted standards, all topped with finials. The end piers are rusticated and include a floriate frieze, cornice, pyramidal caps, and fluted ball finials.
