Description
The gateway and railings to the south of the garden at Baynards Park were built around 1840. They are made of brown and blue brick, with wrought iron railings that enclose a formal garden. The central portion of the gateway is crested and is flanked by red brick piers topped with stone cornices and ball caps. Lower crested sections are located next to the piers, leading to smaller end piers of a similar design. Extending beyond these are uncrested sections that lead to pedestrian archways set between even smaller piers, with lower sections of railings and piers on either side. Opposite the central area and beyond the railings to the south is a long avenue that was formerly lined with oak trees, leading to a lodge on the Sussex boundary.
