Description
The entrance gateway to the Manor House is an early 19th-century structure. It features cast iron piers and railings set on a colourwashed rendered masonry plinth, with wrought iron gates. The design is symmetrical, consisting of two outer piers connected to inner piers by a convex stretch of railings approximately 3 metres long. The inner piers are linked by double gates and rise to about 1.5 metres at their highest point.
The outer piers are square in section, solid, and have recessed rectangular panels, topped with a moulded cornice and an embattled parapet. The inner piers are octagonal in section, hollow, and adorned with pierced traceried panels, also surmounted by a moulded cornice and embattled parapet. Each inner pier features a small moulded panel depicting two gauntlets clasping a ring, surrounded by a buckled strap inscribed with the motto "sans changer". The plain railings are finished with poppyhead finials, and the gates are decorated with scrollwork panels at both the top and bottom.
