Description
Five Penny Cottage is a house that has been divided into two properties. It dates from the 17th century and was probably extended in the 18th century. The structure is timber framed and is finished with colourwashed roughcast render. It has clay tile roofs and is arranged in a T-plan, extending westwards towards the road. The building has two storeys and features 20th-century casement windows throughout, all with glazing bars. There are 20th-century gabled porches, one on the north elevation and one on the south elevation. The main block includes a red brick double ridge stack and a red brick external stack at the eastern end of the south elevation. The eastern cross-wing has a substantial red brick external stack on the south gable. There is also a single-storeyed outbuilding to the south of the cross-wing, which has been converted for domestic use.
