Description
The ha-ha and retaining wall located to the south of the orangery at Byram Park is a 19th-century structure, possibly incorporating an earlier retaining wall. Constructed from ashlar, the ha-ha is bastion-shaped and features a horizontal retaining wall, both of which include a central flight of steps. The ha-ha stands approximately 1.5 metres high, while the wall is around 1 metre high. The ha-ha is designed with curved coping and has piers at the angles and openings, topped with pyramidal caps that culminate in faceted finials. The retaining wall has a chamfered plinth and moulded coping, with piers at each end also surmounted by similar finials. The wall is further adorned with scrolls on the sides of the steps.
