Description
The east wall of the walled garden to the west of the orangery is a wall built in the mid-19th century. It is constructed of sandstone with ashlar and marble dressings. The wall features a plinth and an off-centre monumental gateway that includes a 20th-century panelled gate set between paired pilasters and beneath a round arch with a ram's head keystone. The frieze is decorated with animal motifs and has a dentil cornice, which is topped by a segmental pedimented plaque with flanking volutes between finials. There is also a further entrance at the end with a plain ashlar surround. The wall contains four niches that are adorned with Ionic pilasters and keyed archivolts, and it has coping along the top.
