Description

The Boar Garden vase and pedestal, located approximately 30 metres north-west of the statue of the Wild Boar at Castle Howard, dates from the mid to late 18th century. Made of sandstone, the structure stands about 3 metres tall. It features one step leading up to the pedestal, which has a moulded base, blind fielded panels, and festoons at the chamfered angles. The pedestal is adorned with an acanthus frieze and a moulded cornice. Atop the pedestal is a tall, narrow vase with a fluted stem, decorated with relief swags and a gadrooned rim. This site is included in the Register of Parks and Gardens of special historic interest in England, specifically noted for its significance in North Yorkshire at Castle Howard, which is Grade I listed.
