Description

This is a vase and pedestal located approximately 30 metres east of the Atlas Fountain at Castle Howard. The structure is likely from the early 19th century but has had some repairs made in the 20th century. It is made of sandstone and stands about 3 metres tall. There are two steps leading up to the pedestal, which features a moulded base, blind fielded panels, and a moulded cornice. The vase itself has a fluted base and a lipped rim adorned with a vine scroll. This piece is included for its group value within the historic context of Castle Howard, which is listed as Grade I in the Register of Parks and Gardens of special historic interest in England.
