Description

The vase and pedestal located approximately 30 metres west of the Atlas Fountain at Castle Howard are likely from the early 19th century. Made of sandstone, the structure stands about 3 metres tall. It features two steps leading up to the pedestal, which has a moulded base, blind fielded panels, and a moulded cornice. The vase itself has a fluted base and an ovoid shape with a lipped rim adorned with vine scrolls. This piece is included for its group value within the historic context of Castle Howard, which is listed as Grade I in the Register of Parks and Gardens of special historic interest in England.
