Description

The vase and pedestal, located approximately 100 metres north-east of Atlas Fountain at Castle Howard, are likely from the early 19th century and have undergone some repairs in the 20th century. Made of sandstone, the structure stands about 3 metres tall. It features two steps leading up to the pedestal, which has a moulded base, blind fielded panels, and a moulded cornice. The vase itself has a fluted base and an ovoid shape with a lipped rim adorned with vine scrolls. This piece is included for its group value within the historic landscape of Castle Howard, which is listed as Grade I in the Register of Parks and Gardens of special historic interest in England.
