Description

Numbers 52 and 54 are two houses, now used as offices, built in 1837 by John Richardson for James Pennington. The buildings are constructed of tooled ashlar on a plinth, with a band between the ground and first floors, and have coursed rubble returns. They feature a graduated slate roof with stone chimneys at the mid and end. The structure is three storeys high and consists of four bays. There are pilasters and impost blocks at the elliptical head of a carriage arch that leads to the rear, with a door on either side in the passage (number 52 has a part-glazed door, while number 54 has a panelled door). To the left of the arch, there is one window, and two to the right, with four windows on each floor above; all windows are sashes except for three casements on the second floor to the right. All windows have glazing bars.
