Description
The former Gas Company facade, originally part of the Kendal Gas Company Meter House, was removed from its original location at the Gas Works in Parkside Road and reconstructed in 1984 on the west side of the extension to the Museum of Lakeland Life and Industry. The facade is dated 1825 on the keystone and is attributed to Francis Webster. It features a pedimented portico made of tooled ashlar, with a semicircular-headed entrance flanked by engaged Tuscan columns and corner pilasters on plinths. The entablature displays the inscription "EX FUMO DARE LUCEM" carved on the fascia, while "KENDAL UNDERTAKING" is painted in red on the frieze.
