Description

Former gas works, attributed to Edward Blore, dating to circa 1828, and altered circa 1970s. The gas works were originally part of Goodrich Court, and have since been demolished. The surviving structure comprises a main rectangular block with 20th-century additions to both gable ends and to the main entrance, alongside a circular, partially subterranean former storage chamber. The building is constructed of coursed and squared rubble with ashlar dressings and a slate roof supported by cast iron trusses. The main block features two original windows with shouldered openings, now containing replacement glazing bar sash windows. A decorative vent with pointed arched openings and a conical capping is present on the north gable. A 20th-century glazed porch has been added to the main entrance. It represents an unusual survival of a private gas works.
