Description
The Stables House, The Stables, and Stables Cottage is a former stables complex associated with Goodrich Court, which has since been demolished. This building dates from 1888 and is now divided into four separate homes. It is constructed of red brick with ashlar dressings and features a tiled roof. The structure has a U-shaped plan with chamfered corners, with the head groom's house located at the southeast end and the main coachway at the northwest corner.
The building is two storeys high with an attic and has a moulded string course. The entrance at the northwest corner features a Tudor arch with a string course raised above it as a square label, along with decorative spandrels. This entrance is flanked by single square-headed windows. Above, there is a half dormer with a 3-light stone mullioned window, shaped gable, and finial, along with a central lantern topped with ogee capping and a similar lantern at the northeast corner.
The east flank has a central shaped gable with another half dormer that includes a 3-light stone mullioned window. There are ranges of square-headed windows at either end, which flank five 20th-century inserted glazing bar casements on the ground floor. Decorative octagonal shafts are present on the axial stacks, with two on each wing. Gabled dormers with decorative bargeboards overlook the courtyard, which features 3- and 2-light stone mullioned windows. The north wing includes three Tudor arched carriage entrances, each with a glazed cast iron canopy.
