Description
The South Lodge is a former lodge to Goodrich Court, which has since been demolished. It was built in the mid- to late 19th century and features squared coursed sandstone rubble with ashlar dressings. The upper floor is clad with red fishscale tiles, and it has a tiled roof. The building is L-shaped with a central stack and the entrance located in the angle of the L. It is designed in a vernacular revival style, which is more commonly seen in the Home Counties.
The lodge is two storeys high and has a bargeboarded gable on the right side. The first floor jetties out and is supported by a dragon beam. There is a 2-light leaded casement window above a lean-to porch on the left, a 4-light wooden casement window in the gable end on the right, and a 5-light stone mullioned window with shouldered lintels and a moulded hood featuring decorative heads at the stops. The decorative cusped bargeboards and the cluster of three shafts on the central stack add to its architectural interest.
