Description
The Gatehouse is a former main lodge to Goodrich Court, which has since been demolished. It was likely designed by Edward Blore around 1830 and has undergone significant alterations in the 20th century. The building is constructed of coursed squared sandstone rubble with ashlar dressings and features a hipped slate roof.
The central block includes a depressed arch carriageway that is now blocked, with single-storey square blocks on either side that used to have rounded turrets. The central block has projecting canopied niches on either side of the former carriageway, with a coat of arms set in a square panel above. It retains an original central gabled dormer with a single pointed light, flanked by two similar 20th-century two-light dormers. The flanking blocks have castellated parapets, with entry through the right block. The left block is slightly larger and features a tile-clad turret-like stack.
