Description
Pencraig Court Hotel is a house that has been converted into a hotel. It dates from the 18th century and was remodeled and extended around 1840. The building features a combination of stuccoed brick and sandstone rubble, with roofs made of concrete tiles and Welsh slate, and brick chimney stacks. The structure has a roughly rectangular plan that runs from northeast to southwest and consists of two storeys and attics.
On the northwest elevation, there are three windows with glazing bar sashes. The ground floor windows have architraves, recessed aprons, and consoles that support simplified cornices. A central porch is supported by two pairs of fluted columns with Ionic capitals, and it features early 20th-century glazing. To the right of the porch is a low two-storey service wing.
The northeast elevation includes a full-height canted bay with glazing bar sashes on each storey. The southeast elevation reveals an exposed 18th-century brick core with a dentilled brick eaves cornice, which is partly concealed by an early 19th-century sandstone rubble extension.
Inside, there is a three-flight open well staircase with enriched cast-iron balusters and a mahogany handrail. The principal ground floor room on the southeast side features an early 19th-century cast-iron fireplace and basket, adorned with a frieze of circular motifs.
